Do you work on Sifter full-time? If so, how did you go about making the switch? If not, what are you supplementing your Sifter app with? Thanks!

I am working on Sifter full-time now. I originally quit my full-time job in January of 2008 to focus on Sifter, and we launched in December of 2008. I made the switch to full-time in July of 2010.

From January 2008 to July 2010, I did freelance work as needed to make ends meet. I probably could have gone full-time much sooner, but I had always promised myself to not let Sifter control my life, so I went forward with some important lifestyle decisions that meant I couldn’t afford to take a big pay cut to work on Sifter.

On a side note, starting a company, getting engaged, planning a wedding, getting married, buying a house, and going on a honeymoon are all things that add up to make life a bit stressful at the time. Looking back, those decisions were definitely the right decisions, and I would have really regretted putting any of that on hold for the business. However, it meant that it would take a little more time until Sifter could support me full-time.
