Email Standards Project

HTML email isn't going anywhere, but unfortunately the adoption of web standards across email clients is notoriously poor. The team behind Campaign Monitor and MailBuild have created a great site to help change that by championing standards in email. Email Standards Project

While I personally don’t do much with HTML email, I have in the past, and it’s a painfully laborious process. The email standards project is here to help change that. The community has made great progress improving the adoption of web standards, but HTML email is having a much more difficult time having consistent standards at all. The goal is reasonable, and more importantly, it’s one we can all contribute to in some small way.

Our goal is to help designers understand why web standards are so important for email, while working with email client developers to ensure that emails render consistently. This is a community effort to improve the email experience for both designers and readers alike.

HTML email isn’t going anywhere, and, when used appropriately, it can be a very useful and powerful tool. The site goes into more detail explaining why web standards matter for email and even a page on showing how you can help the cause. Take some time to check it out, and help spread the word.
